music fan ... Some of my favorite songs (Part 2)

  1. Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) by Trans-Siberian Orchestra - I have liked this song since the first time I heard it on the radio around Christmas 1996. I actually cued up a tape and waited for hours to record it from the radio that year. It took forever for me to find what it was, since with no lyrics, it was hard to track down. I have all their albums now and we saw them in concert in 2007.
  2. Praying for Time by George Michael - I never really listened to the lyrics of this song until Larry pointed them out to me. I was shocked that someone like George Michael would sing such a song, but I think he's right. Maybe we need to be praying for more time because there are a lot of people not ready for His return.
  3. Los Reyes Catolicos/Los Reyes Catolicos (Reprise) by Tears for Fears - I first heard this on Yahoo! Launchcast and fell in love with the haunting nature of it. The reprise is a longer version, slightly different at the beginning.
  4. On the Turning Away by Pink Floyd - I liked this song even before I met Larry, but it became special to me around my 21st birthday. As we were leaving town to go to my parent's house for my birthday, I heard a dedication of this song on WZZQ (man I miss that station) from Larry to me. And thus it became a sentimental favorite.
  5. I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner - I know a lot of people hate this song, but it's been a big part of my life. It was used as inspiration when I wrote the novel with my best friend in middle school. I didn't feel a lot of love as a kid, so I always dreamed of a man who would 'show me' what love was when I grew up.
  6. Everything by Lifehouse - I had never heard this song before I saw the video my brother sent me when he still out in Kansas City. I posted about the impact the video had on me here, and I see the video in my head every time I hear the song now. It always seems to come on when I need to be reminded of where my focus needs to be turned back to.
  7. Set Me Free by Casting Crowns - I have posted about this song before in this blog, so I won't bore you with a rehashing of that, but it has meant a lot to me, both as a song and the video. Just the other night when I was struggling, I heard this and prayed to be 'set free'.
  8. Never Let Go by Josh Groban - I have always seen religious connotations in this song, correct or not. The line that gets me is, 'Turn your head up to the sky/Nothing down below but me'. This song has gotten me through a lot of things, helping me to remember to hold on what I know and what's brought me here.
  9. Remember the Feeling by Chicago - My fondest memory of this song is a trip with my French class to Chicago, listening to this all the way up and back. We were going to the art museum, and being shy back then, I just put on my headphones and listened to this album all the way.
  10. Silent Lucidity by Queensryche - I can't remember if I knew this song before I met Larry; I think I might have heard it before, but never paid much attention. When I first came down to Terre Haute, I was messed up. I had a lot of demons to deal with, and Larry used to sing this to me, promising to be watching over me. The line that meant the most to me was, 'A soul set free to fly' because I always felt weighed down by everything in my past. I think I can finally start to say I feel like a soul set free to fly.
Part 3 tomorrow ...
